Bakersfield Condors News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (14-6-1-0, 29pts) rallied from a three-goal deficit but fell to the Stockton Thunder (6-11-1-2, 13pts) in overtime Friday night at Stockton Arena. Stockton snapped the Condors six-game winning streak, though Bakersfield extended their lead in the Pacific Division to 10 points with the one-point overtime loss.
The first period was a busy one for the goaltenders, as the two clubs combined for 27 shots on goal. G Timo Pielmeier got the nod in net for Bakersfield, while G Bryan Pitton started for the Thunder. The Condors drew first blood on the night with LW Logan MacMillan snapping home his 2nd of the season at 10:42. Stockton answered, however, with LW Matt Robinson notching his first goal with the Thunder to tie it up at 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Stockton took the lead and extended it in the middle stanza. LW Brett Hemingway, C Oren Eizenman and RW JF Caudron all tallied to take a commanding 4-1 lead. The Thunder penalty kill, meanwhile, held onto the lead. They stoned Bakersfield on five second period power plays and seven advantages through 40 minutes. F Andrew Ianiero pulled the Condors closer with a goal at 19:59 of the second, but Stockton led 4-2 after two.
MacMillan chipped away at the Thunder lead early in the third, notching his second of the night at 5:13, on the power play to make it a one-goal game. After another Stockton tally, D Stu Bickel notched his first professional goal at 12:42 to again make it a one-goal game. Then with 1:57 remaining in regulation C Gino Guyer wristed home the equalizer, finishing off a feed from Bickel, to make it 5-5 and earn the point for the Condors.
A last-minute penalty in regulation against Bakersfield led to the game-winner in the extra session. Caudron sent home his second of the night 52 seconds into overtime to end the game, and give the Thunder their fourth power play marker of the evening.
Notes from the nest:
F Andrew Ianiero extended his point streak to six games with his second period goal... LW Shawn Weller had two assists to also extend his point streak to six games... Bakersfield had a season-high 46 shots on goal in the game... Former Condors RW Dan Sexton, who remains Bakersfield's points leader, made his NHL debut tonight for Anaheim in Minnesota... Three stars: 1st - Caudron (STK); 2nd - Eizenman (STK); 3rd - MacMillan (BAK).
