Stingrays' Winning Streak Continues In 4-3 Victory Over Elmira

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (15-6-1-3) defeated the Elmira Jackals (10-8-2-1) 4-3 Saturday night in front of 4,142 at North Charleston Coliseum. Stingrays forward Rob Ricci netted the game-winning goal and goaltender Braden Holtby knocked aside 27 of 30 shots to push the team's winning streak to six games. The Stingrays battle the Jackals one final time tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in our annual Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids and the Salvation Army.

The Stingrays started the scoring early with a power-play goal from Keith Johnson at 1:26 of the first period. Stingrays forwards Nikita Kashirsky and Trent Campbell recorded assists. Less than three minutes later, the Stingrays grabbed a 2-0 lead as Kashirsky buried his team-leading thirteenth goal of the season past Jackals goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak at 4:25 from Johann Kroll and Matt Fornataro. One minute and 55 second later, South Carolina netted their third goal of the period with a blast from defenseman Josh Godfrey at 6:20. Forwards Jake Hauswirth and Fornataro received assists. The Jackals made it a 3-1 deficit with a tally from Justin Donati at 13:30 of the opening frame. Chanse Fitzpatrick and Tyler Donati earned assists on Donati's tenth of the season. The Stingrays made it 4-1 late in the period as Ricci lit the lamp at 19:36 from Godfrey. The Stingrays finished the opening period 1-for-3 on the man advantage.

The Jackals cut the Stingrays' lead in half with a tally from Fitzpatrick beating Holtby at 7:51 of the second period from Yannick Tifu. Forward Justin Donati pulled the Jackals within one at 14:03 from Tifu and Olivier Proulx. Elmira finished the second period with 13 shots on Holtby. South Carolina ended the middle period with nine opportunities on Teslak. Leading by one and heading into the third period, the Stingrays moved into a lock-down defense and only allowed five shots on Holtby in the final frame to preserve the win. Holtby ended the night with 27 save on 30 shots while Teslack suffers the loss blocking 21 of 25 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays' power play finished 1-for-4 while Elmira ended the contest 0-for-4.

Tomorrow, December 6, is our annual Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids and the Salvation Army as the Stingrays battle the Elmira Jackals at 4:00 p.m. Bring a stuffed animal to the game and get ready to throw it on the ice after the Stingrays score their first goal! Sunday is also Kid's Day featuring $5 kid's tickets and pregame kid's carnival. Camp Bow Wow will be on the main concourse for Adopt-a-Dog Sundays featuring the Adoptable Dog of the Night.
