Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Mother Nature decided to cooperate at Harbor Park on Sunday afternoon, as the Mud Hens and Tides got back on the field after their postponed game Saturday evening. The pitching matchup headed into the series finale looked to be promising as two arms with plenty of Major League experience took the hill for their respective squads.
For Toledo it was Shane Greene toeing the rubber in his third Triple A appearance of the season. The right hander worked around a day when he didn't have his best stuff, limiting the Norfolk offense to four runs in six innings and scattering eleven hits. Norfolk sent Kevin Gausman to the hill after recently being sent down from Baltimore. Gausman stayed around for just three frames allowing no runs and surrendering a single hit to Alex Avila to leadoff the game.
Offensively, Henry Urrutia got things started in the second bringing around the first two runs of the game off Greene on a 2 RBI single to right . In the bottom half of the fourth, it was Urrutia again driving in Michael Almanzar on a sharp knock to center. For the Hens, a majority of their offense came in their three run top half of the sixth. Jefry Marte made his presence known to the International League once again, as he highlighted the inning with a three run home run, his 12th of the season. Marte leads Toledo in home runs (12) and runs batted in with 50.
After back-to-back scoreless innings thrown by Josh Zeid and Ian Krol, the game headed into the bottom of the ninth tied at four. However, it was the back end of the Mud Hens bullpen faltering again, as Alberto Cabrera's one out offering was sent over the wall by Norfolk's Christian Walker, giving the Tides a 5-4 walkoff win.
After a week long road trip, Toledo is back in the Hen House Monday night as the Durham Bulls come to town in their first appearance at Fifth Third Field this season. First pitch is slated for 7:00 pm.
