Charlotte Knights News Release

(ROCHESTER, NY) - The Charlotte Knights lost a pair of one-run games as they were swept in a Sunday double-header by the Rochester Red Wings, including a walk-off home run in the 11th inning of game two. The Knights are now 3-4 through seven games of their current 10-game road trip, with each of the four losses coming by one run.

Wilkin Ramirez was the hero for the Red Wings in game two of the twin-bill, delivering five RBIs on two home runs, including a two-run, walk-off blast in the bottom of the eleventh inning to give Rochester a 5-4 victory.

The Knights forced extra innings when, down 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning, Chris Marrero delivered an RBI-single to score Chris Curley from second base to tie the game. Matt Lindstrom then tossed a scoreless bottom half of the inning - stranding the would-be winning run at third base - to send game two into extras. The Knights reliever also hurled a perfect eighth inning to extend his scoreless streak to 12.2 innings pitched over his last nine outings.

Neither team would score again until the top of the 11th inning when Kevan Smith scored on a Micah Johnson infield-single to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. Maikel Cleto would remain in the game for his third inning of work and would be saddled with the loss after allowing the game-winning home run.

The Knights did take an early 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two when Trayce Thompson scored on a Marrero sacrifice-fly.

Jason Coats then doubled the team's lead in the following frame, driving an opposite-field home run to push the advantage to 2-0. The homer was the seventh for Coats this season, and added to his team-leading RBI total of 43 in 60 games played.

Brad Penny did not factor in the game-two decision after allowing three runs on six hits over six innings pitched in his second start since returning from the disabled list. All three runs surrendered by Penny came on Ramirez's first home run of the game - a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Knights were shut out for the fifth time this season in a 1-0 loss in game one, with the Red Wings scoring one unearned run to claim the victory.

Miguel Chalas got the start for the Knights in game one and tossed four solid innings of three-hit ball. The lone run in the contest came in the bottom of the third frame when Doug Bernier - who reached base on a fielding error - came in to score on an Eric Fryer RBI-single. Chalas would be saddled with the tough-luck loss - his third of the season.

Dan Jennings made the third appearance of his major-league rehab assignment, tossing two scoreless innings of two-hit ball. The lefty has tossed two innings in each of his three appearances with the Knights, allowing two runs over those six frames.

Tyler Duffey tossed a complete game shutout for the Red Wings in the seven-inning contest, allowing only four hits and earning his third win of the season.

Matt Davidson led the Knights offensive attack in the first half of the twin-bill, contributing two of the team's four hits. The Knights third baseman reached base in each of his three at-bats in game one, tallying a walk and a pair of singles.

The Knights will travel to Norfolk, Virginia for the final three games of their 10-game road trip to take-on the division-rival Tides. Game one of that series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Monday and can be heard on the Knights flagship station, ESPN 730 AM. The team will return to Uptown Charlotte on Thursday to play three games in two days against the Gwinnett Braves, with a day-night double-header scheduled for Friday, July 3rd.
