Bats Split Doubleheader with IronPigs, 6-1 and 8-3

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-The Louisville Bats (38-39) faced the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (30-48) in a doubleheader today to finish the three game series. The doubleheader was split and the Bats won game one, 6-1, while the IronPigs took game two, 5-1.

A four-run seventh inning by the Bats secured their win for game one. Third baseman Josh Satin had a two-run double and later scored by a single ground ball.

Righty Dylan Axelrod (W, 5-5, 4.14) took the win for the Bats in game one. He went five and one third innings, gave up one hit, allowed one run which was earned, walked three, struck out four, and allowed one home run.

Righty Jason Berken (L, 4-5, 3.50) started on the mound for the IronPigs. He went six innings, gave up four hits, allowed two runs, one earned, walked three, struck out four, and allowed one home run.

In the fourth inning the Bats and IronPigs produced their first hits of the game. For the Bats shortstop Kristopher Negron homered. IronPigs left fielder Aaron Altherr followed with another homer to tie the game.

In game two Lehigh Valley had a four-run fifth inning that the Bats were not able to bounce back from. Four singles and one triple gave the IronPigs the 5-0 lead.

Righty Donovan Hand (L, 1-4, 4.70) started game two for the Bats. He went four and one third innings, gave up seven hits, allowed four runs all earned, walked one, and struck out two.

Righty Chris Leroux (W, 1-2, 2.53) started on the hill for the IronPigs for game two and took his first win of the season. He went five innings, gave up two hits, zero runs, walked zero, and struck out two.

In the sixth the Bats had bases loaded, but scored only one from a single by outfielder Brennan Boesch. In the bottom of the sixth Altherr had a two run homer, making that his second homerun of the doubleheader, making the score, 8-1.

The Bats seventh inning battle fell short in game two after they only scored two runs from a fielding error.

The Bats out-hit the IronPigs in today's doubleheader, 15-13. The IronPigs succeeded 11 of those hits just in game two. The Bats were unable to sweep Lehigh Valley, but won the series 2-1.

The Bats head back to Louisville Slugger Field tomorrow to face the Syracuse Chiefs at 7:05 pm. Projected to be on the mound for the Bats is righty Keyvius Sampson (2-3, 2.85) and for the Chiefs is righty A.J. Cole (0-4, 4.60).
