Zebulon, NC --- Eric Campbell singled home the winning run in the last of the ninth to help Carolina avoid its fifth straight extra-inning game, as the Mudcats rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Jacksonville Suns at Five County Stadium on Tuesday night.

Campbell's game-winner down the third base line with the bases loaded and two outs came four batters after a heroic, game-tying homer by Denis Phipps with two outs and none on against Jhan Marinez.

With the victory, Carolina improved to 5-8 in the second half, granting a victory to first-time reliever Pat Doyle (W, 1-0), who was called up from Low-A Dayton prior to the game due to a paucity of relief pitching thanks to Carolina's run of extra inning contests. Doyle also received a key base on balls with two outs in the ninth, loading the bases ahead of Campbell's single.

Carolina lost the earlier contest on Wednesday as the Suns' Kevin Mattison struck for a grand slam in the 11th inning against Chris Mobley to cap a 9-5 Suns victory of Monday's night's Southern League curfew-suspended game.

The Mudcats continue their four-game series with the Suns on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM ET.
