HOOVER, Ala. - Starting pitchers Patrick Corbin and Terry Doyle each went the distance on Wednesday night at Regions Park with Corbin firing off a three-hit blanking of the Birmingham Barons in the BayBears' 2-0 victory, their fifth in a row.

Neither team posted a base hit until Adam Eaton singled against Doyle (3-3) in the top of the fourth. Corbin (7-5) didn't surrender his first knock until Seth Loman bounced a knock up the middle with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

It wasn't until the seventh inning when the scoreless tie was broken as A.J. Pollock doubled to start the frame for the BayBears (48-36, 10-4). Pollock advanced to third on a bloop single to right from Paul Goldschmidt. Ryan Wheeler looped a ball toward left-center that Brandon Short grabbed while Pollock tagged up from third. Short fired a one-hop strike to the plate, gunning down Pollock for the second out.

Taylor Harbin wouldn't let the BayBears be denied, however, as he smoked the next pitch to center for a base hit, bringing home Goldschmidt with the game's first run. The next batter, Marc Krauss grounded a ball into right field, which kicked Harbin home from second to make it 2-0.

Corbin teetered on and off the ropes from there but never gave in. He worked around a two-out walk and a Harbin error in the bottom of the seventh to strand two runners. In the eighth, Greg Paiml doubled with one out but was left at third base.

Corbin settled on the hill for the bottom of the ninth and uncorked a one-out double to Josh Phegley. He quickly rebounded by striking out Loman and forcing Kyle Shelton to line to right, ending the ballgame. It was the BayBears' first complete-game shutout since Tom Layne threw one against the Barons on May 22 of last year.

The BayBears finish their four-game road series in search of a sweep on Thursday night at 7:05 with right-hander Jarrod Parker (6-6) starting against lefty Justin Edwards (3-1). The BayBears are back home on Friday night to battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05. There will be a Friday Night Fireworks show after the game.
