Pastornicky Hits for Cycle in Wild Braves Win Over Jackson

PEARL, MISS. (JULY 5, 2011) - Tyler Pastornicky of the Mississippi Braves smacked a triple in the eighth inning, recording a cycle in the Braves 14-7 win over the Jackson Generals Tuesday night at Trustmark Park. The hit came off of Generals position player Scott Savastano, but none the less was the first in M-Braves history. The nine inning game was 4 hours and 1 minute, which was the second longest game in the Jackson clubs history, and longest nine inning game in M-Braves history. The Braves 14 runs and 18 hits Tuesday was the most allowed in a game this season by the Generals. The win was the third straight for the Braves, their first three-game winning streak this season.

The two teams combined for six errors (four by Jackson), 20 strikeouts, 15 walks, 21 runs, 30 hits and used 12 total pitchers on the night. The Braves have won the first two in the series and lead the season series 10-7.

The Generals had 12 hits Tuesday night, and were led by Vinnie Catricala, who finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI's. In six games with Jackson, Vinnie has a .458 batting average with two homers, three doubles and 10 RBI's. Johermyn Chavez was 2-for-4, the only other General with multiple hits. The Generals stranded a season high 16 runners on base, taking advantage of nine walks by Braves pitching.

Pastornicky, the Southern League All-Star was 4-for-6 on the night with the single, double, triple and homer. He now has seven hits in the first two games of the series. Ernesto Mejia and Cory Harrilchak each ended the night at the plate 3-for-3 with a pair of walks. Willie Cabrera and Jordan Kreke joined Pastornicky by going deep Tuesday night.

Tom Wilhelmsen (2-4) suffered the loss for Jackson and was removed after just three innings on the mound. Tom allowed seven runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking two. Richard Sullivan (2-4), one of six M-Braves relievers Tuesday was credited with the win. Braves starter Randall Delgado was removed after just three innings, giving up three runs and walking four.

The Generals continue their four-game series Wednesday night in Pearl, MS against the Mississippi Braves. Game time is at 7:05. RHP Andrew Carraway (5-1, 2.90) makes the start for the Generals against RHP Arodys Vizcaino (2-2, 3.76) for Mississippi.
