Smokies Silenced in Montgomery

Montgomery, AL -For the third night in a row, a Biscuits starting pitcher tossed seven innings against the Smokies, and Montgomery silenced Tennessee with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Park. With the loss, the Smokies fall to 9-5 in the second half and 51-33 overall.
The Biscuit's offense was able to jump out in front with a first inning run for the third straight game, as Shawn O'Malley was driven in on an RBI groundout by Stephen Vogt to put Montgomery ahead 1-0. In the second inning off Smokies RHP Dallas Beeler (1-4), Kyung Kong hit a solo home run to right field, and gave the Biscuits a 2-0 lead. Montgomery scored again in the frame, as O'Malley reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced all the way to third base on a throwing error by Junior Lake. Vogt came up with O'Malley at third base again and hit a soft line drive into right field to bring in O'Malley, and the Biscuits led 3-0 at the end of two innings.
After walking a batter in the first inning, LHP Matt Moore (7-3) mowed down the Smokies, retiring 18 straight batters and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. With two outs in the seventh, Moore surrendered a solo home run to Rebel Ridling, and Montgomery's lead was cut to 3-1. The Ridling homer was the lone run and hit that Moore allowed in seven innings of work. He also stuck out ten in picking up his fourth consecutive win.
The Smokies made noise with two outs in the ninth inning, putting runners at first and second, but Matt Bush was able to get Ridling out on a pop out to end the game. The Smokies are now 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position for the series.
The Smokies and Biscuits will play the series finale on Thursday night at 8:05 PM. RHP Matt Loosen (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start for the Smokies, and the Biscuits counter with RHP Chris Archer (3-4, 5.12).
