MIDLAND, MI - Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded, Great Lakes Loons left fielder, Angelo Songco, knocked a two-run double to the wall in right field to give his team the 4-3 walk-off victory Wednesday over the Lake County Captains.

The rally in extras was sparked by designated hitter, Chris Jacobs, who had two doubles before adding a leadoff single in the 10th.

"We were down and we were just looking for base runners," Jacobs explained. "If it was tied, I might have been up there trying to hit balls out of the park. But being down one, one runner is going to tie it...and sure enough, I got a base-hit up the middle on two strikes and you know it worked out for us."

Lake County relief pitcher Takafumi Nakamura proceeded to walk Nick Buss and then committed a fielding error that allowed Christian Lara to reach first and load the bases. What resulted were 4,318 Loons fans doing the Funky Feather as Songco's blast netted the Loons their 86th win of the season. Nakamura was credited with the loss, his first.

Battling light rain early, Loons starting pitcher Matt Magill allowed the Lake County Captains to put up two runs in the first inning. Outfielder Tyler Holt tripled to right field before Casey Frawley connected for a two-run home run and the 2-0 lead.

The Loons answered quickly to tie the game in the second inning. Catcher J.T. Wise and Rafael Ynoa both singled to set up Jacobs' bases-clearing double that split the outfielders at the warning track in right-center.

"They were pitching me away, throwing a bunch off-speed," Jacobs said. "[Captains starter, Trey Haley] just happened to leave one up, and that was the one I was able to get my bat on. I was able to keep my weight back and just drive through it."

The drive leveled the game 2-2, until Frawley found an RBI-single in the top of the 10th to put the momentary pressure on the Loons.

Magill was credited a no-decision for his six innings of work, where he allowed two runs on three hits while fanning six Captains and walking one. Loons reliever Steve Smith (4-5, 2.74) pitched the final four innings to pick up the win, allowing one run on three hits.

Wednesday's game was Dow Diamond's first extra-innings game since the Dayton Dragons took the Loons to 14 innings on 5/15.

The Loons will host game two of their three-game series against the Lake County Captains on Thursday. Starting for the Loons is RHP Allen Webster (11-9, 2.94) against the Captains LHP Vidal Nuno (6-7, 4.77). The first 1,000 fans to the park will receive Norm Cash bobbleheads, the final giveaway in the six-part Tigers Legend Series presented by MidMichigan Health.
