Orlando Cabrera, Edinson Volquez to Play for Dragons Tonight

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons announced today that Cincinnati Reds shortstop Orlando Cabrera will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment with the Dragons tonight (Wednesday) when they host the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field at 7:00 p.m. Cabrera is expected to play shortstop and bat in the lead-off position in the Dragons batting order. The Dragons also announced that pitcher Edinson Volquez, optioned to Dayton from Cincinnati yesterday, will start tonight's game.

Cabrera is on the Reds disabled list with a strained oblique and has not played since August 2nd. He has appeared in 102 games with the Reds this season, starting 99. He is batting .260 with three home runs and 37 runs batted in.

Volquez has started eight games for the Reds this season, going 3-2 with a 6.17 earned run average. He had "Tommy John" surgery on August 3, 2009 and has returned to action this season. He made his first start of the year with Single-A Lynchburg on June 12 and eventually made his first Major League start with the Reds on July 17. Volquez last pitched on August 23 at San Francisco.

The Dragons will make several additional roster changes today. Those changes will be announced shortly.
