South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks woke up the bats on Wednesday evening, scoring 12 runs on 16 hits in a rout of the Fort Wayne TinCaps. With the 12-5 victory, South Bend has ended a six game losing streak and gave the fans a good celebration on Fan Appreciation Night at the Cove.
After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, the Silver Hawks responded by scoring in each of their first four at-bats. The Hawks scored two in the first, four in the second, one in the third, and two more in the fourth to turn the game into an early rout.
Mike Belfiore (WP, 3-10) benefitted from all the runs, but turned in a solid outing again for South Bend. The left-handed starter went 7.0 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Belfiore passed the century mark in K's, totaling 101 now on the season.
Offensively, just about everyone contributed as the 12 runs tied the season high for most runs in a single game. The Silver Hawks had five triples to establish a new team record, led by Chris Jarrett and Ender Inciarte with two each. David Nick had the other three bagger for the Hawks.
Jarrett had a double in addition to his two triples, and raised his batting average to .339 while scoring three times. Bobby Borchering had three hits and two RBIs, while David Narodowski contributed three hits and a RBI as well.
Not to be outdone, Nick, Inciarte, and Victor Estevez all had two hits and scored at least one run apiece. Tyson Van Winkle was 0-for-2, but still chipped in with a run and a RBI for the Hawks.
Matt Jackson (LP, 4-2) was hit with the loss after allowing seven runs over 3.0 innings. Edinson Rincon and Jonathan Galvez had solo homers for the TinCaps.
The Silver Hawks continue the final home stand of the season against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres) on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM Eastern Time with RHP Andrew Wolcott (2-4, 5.56 ERA) starting for South Bend against Fort Wayne's RHP Matt Lollis (5-1, 1.62 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
