Mike Schweitzer Wins $10k on Mix 96.5 Fm/Wmt Am 600 Winning Wednesday

Cedar Rapids, IA - When Mike Schweitzer of Cedar Rapids came to the Kernels game against the Burlington Bees on Wednesday night, he had no idea he would walk away with $10,000. He needs to thank Kernels outfielder Terrell Alliman, who hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning, which was the correct feat to win Mike $10,000 as part of Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday.

The season-long promotion would give a fan, age 18 and older, $10,000 if the Kernels performed the a certain feat, like turn a triple play or hit for the cycle, in the correct inning.

The Kernels had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth and the feat they needed to accomplish was hit a grand slam. It was Terrell's second chance at hitting a grand slam, as he drew a bases loaded walk his first plate appearance in the inning. In fact, the Kernels had seven batters come to the plate in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and a chance to hit that grand slam and on Alliman's second at bat in the inning, he hit a long shot over the Home Run Hot Tub in left center field to clear the bases and win Mike the $10K.

It was also the final Wednesday home game of the regular season and the last chance to win the prize. The Kernels would like to thank Mix 96.5 FM and WMT AM 600 for being the Winning Wednesday media sponsors all season long and congratulate Mike on his prize.

The Kernels continue the final three game home stand of the regular season on Thursday night at 6:35 pm. It's Fan Appreciation Night and 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday. Gates open at 5:30 pm and tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560 after 10 am on Thursday. The current home stand continues through Friday, September 3rd.
