Dragons Add Volquez, Cabrera; Announce Numerous Moves

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster moves today:

Shortstop Orlando Cabrera has been assigned to Dayton on a Major League injury rehabilitation assignment. He does not count towards the Dragons 25-man roster limit.

Right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez has been optioned to Dayton from the Cincinnati Reds and has been added to the Dragons roster.

Shortstop Didi Gregorius, second baseman Henry Rodriguez, and utility man Kevyn Feiner have been promoted from Dayton to Lynchburg of the Carolina League.

Infielders Ronald Torreyes, Samuel Diaz, and David Vidal have been promoted to Dayton from the Arizona League Reds.

The Dragons roster now stands at the Midwest League limit of 25.

Cabrera is on the Reds disabled list with a strained oblique and has not played since August 2nd. He has appeared in 102 games with the Reds this season, starting 99. He is batting .260 with three home runs and 37 runs batted in.

Volquez has started eight games for the Reds this season, going 3-2 with a 6.17 earned run average. He had "Tommy John" surgery on August 3, 2009 and has returned to action this season. He made his first start of the year with Single-A Lynchburg on June 12 and eventually made his first Major League start with the Reds on July 17. Volquez last pitched on August 23 at San Francisco.

Gregorius appeared in 120 games as the Dragons starting shortstop this season, batting .273 with five home runs, 41 RBI, and 16 stolen bases.

Rodriguez, who played in the 2010 Midwest League All-Star Game, has appeared in a team-leading 124 games for the Dragons this season. He leads the league in hits and at-bats and leads the team in batting average (.307), RBI (78), and stolen bases (33) while tying for the team lead in home runs (14). Rodriguez leaves the Dragons with a 16-game hitting streak, the third longest in franchise history.

Feiner appeared in 50 games with the Dragons, batting .200 with three home runs and 17 RBI.

Torreyes has enjoyed a sensational season in the lower levels of the Reds farm system. He began the season with the Reds Venezuela Summer League affiliate and batted .390 in 67 games. He was promoted to the Arizona League Reds and batted .349 in 18 games, all at second base, without committing an error. He hit one home run and drove in 11 runs.

Diaz also began the season Reds Venezuela Summer League affiliate, batting .344 with two homers and 20 RBI in 37 games. He was promoted to the Reds Arizona League affiliate and hit .307 in 31 games with no home runs and 11 RBI, splitting his time between second base and shortstop.

Vidal was selected by the Reds in the eighth round of the 2010 draft out of Miami Dade College. With the Arizona League Reds, Vidal appeared in 34 games, primarily at third base, batting .297 with six home runs and 34 RBI. He also played briefly this season with Billings, the Reds Rookie affiliate in the Pioneer League. This spring at Dade, Vidal batted .401 with 14 HR and 61 RBI in 42 games, earning Florida Community College All-State honors and finishing second in the voting for Southern Conference Player of the Year.

The Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series.
