Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - Right-hander Trevor Walch (2-0) threw a complete game, three hit shutout on Friday night in the Evansville Otters 4-0 win over the Lake Erie Crushers (26-23).

Walch set down 19 of the final 20 batters he faced, striking out a season-high nine batters in the victory.

The Otters (29-18) remain in first place in the Frontier League East Division with the win and will look for a series victory on Saturday against Lake Erie.

Evansville scored first against All-star pitcher Zac Treece. Outfielder John Schultz led off with a first inning single and scored a couple batters later on an RBI groundout from fellow All-Star, Otters first baseman Nik Balog.

Ahead 1-0, Evansville added to their advantage in the third. All-star infielder Josh Allen reached on a double and All-star infielder Shayne Houck plated him with a two-run home run to left field. It was the 11th home run of the season for Houck and fourth home run in the last five games.

Up 3-0, Walch settled in retiring eight straight batters entering the bottom of the fifth. That was when Evansville tallied another run on a J.R. Higley RBI single. With the base hit, Higley extended his hitting streak to an Otters season-high 10th consecutive game.

Facing a 4-0 deficit, Lake Erie was unable to get another base runner until the ninth. After setting down 18 consecutive hitters, Walch allowed a one-out single to catcher Emmanuel Quiles only to get an inning-ending double play to end the game.

Allen and Schultz both finished with two hits each in the Otters win.

Evansville will look for their third straight win on Saturday night in the middle game of the series against Lake Erie. The Otters will have left-hander Zach Fowler (0-1, 9.00 ERA) throwing against Crushers righty Mickey Jannis (2-3, 4.46 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:35 pm CDT. Fans wishing to purchase tickets can do so by calling 812-435-8686. It is Central Labor Council night and all union workers can display their badge at the gate to gain free admission. The game will also be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Radio announcers Mike Radomski and Bill McKeon have the call beginning at 6:15 pm CDT.
