River City Rascals News Release

A close affair ends in a walk-off victory for the Rascals. Butler's walk-off RBI single puts an end to the series as River City takes two of three against the West Division Schaumburg Boomers.

In the rubber match of the series, River City sent second-year professional Kyle Brady to the mound to make his first professional start after spending the entirety of his professional career working out of the bullpen. The Boomers, in contrast, sent a rookie of their own to the hill, right-hander Eddie Cody.

After a scoreless first inning, the Boomers would begin the scoring in game three on a two-out, two-run homerun by first-baseman Brian McConkey in the top of the second at T.R. Hughes. The Rascals however, would quickly provide a spark of their own on a lead-off homerun by Zach Kometani in the bottom of the first to cut the lead in half- making it 2-1 Schaumburg after two.

Both offenses would thereafter remain relatively quiet until the top of the fourth when Schaumburg added an insurance run on a RBI double by third-baseman Tyler Sciacca. River City would then tie the game in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run into the rightfield bullpen off the bat of rookie Brian Hansen- his third of the season.

The tie game would not last long unfortunately, as Schaumburg added a run to take the lead in the top of the sixth on a pass-ball, scoring the runner from third to make it 4-3 Boomers. Brady's night then came to a close after five innings of work where he allowed four runs on five hits while striking out seven in his first professional start.

Neither team would score any other runs until the bottom of the eighth when River City tied the game at four apiece on a one-out RBI sacrifice-fly courtesy of Curran Redal. Then, with the game still tied at four heading into the bottom of the ninth at T.R. Hughes Ballpark, River City would put a runner on third with two-outs- serving as the potential winning run. Saxon Butler then came up with a huge hit to walk-off a Rascals victory as River City pulled out a narrow 5-4 win in the rubber match of the series. The loss went to Schaumburg reliever Dexter Price with the win going to All-Star closer Gabriel Shaw.

Catch game one of the final series before the All-Star break against the Windy City Thunderbolts at T.R. Hughes Ballpark starting tomorrow night at 7:05pm CT.
