River City Rascals News Release
River City wins its third in four games, this one coming against the Windy City Thunderbolts. The Rascals offense once again caught fire as they scored 14 runs with RBIs coming from seven of the starting nine.
After winning two of three against Schaumburg, the Rascals welcomed Windy City to town to finish off the first half of the Frontier League season. River City would send veteran right-hander, Chase Doremus, to the mound for his first start as a Rascal to oppose the rookie Tad Barton-making his professional debut.
Following a scoreless top of the first, River City came out firing, as Saxon Butler drove in Johnny Morales on a one-out, RBI double to make it 1-0 Rascals after one. River City would then add three more to the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Eric Williams and an RBI groundout-coupled with a throwing error-by Johnny Morales-making it 4-0 Rascals after two.
Adding insult to injury in the bottom of the third, Windy City committed three defensive miscues, which allowed the Rascals to tack on two more runs-pushing Rascals' lead to six.
In the top of the fifth the Thunderbolts would finally put some runs on the board courtesy of a fielder's choice ground-out and an RBI single by Evan Button-making it 6-2 River City heading into the bottom of the fifth, where the Rascals would add three more via RBI knocks from Eric Williams and Brian Hansen to make it 9-2 River City after five in O'Fallon. Midway through the inning, starter Tad Barton's night would come to a conclusion after throwing 4.2 innings while allowing nine runs-only three earned-on eight hits.
After five innings, the Rascals' starter would also exit the ballgame, as Doremus threw five innings of one-run ball, allowing only four hits while striking out three and walking one. The River City bullpen would then shut down the Thunderbolts in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, as Brook got shutout innings from Chandler Jagodzinski, Trey Lambert, and Bryce Shafer.
That kept the score 9-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Already up by seven, the Rascals would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on RBIs courtesy of Zach Kometani and Hector Crespo to make the game 11-2 heading into the ninth. Out of the pen then came reliever Paul Hvozdovic who would shut down the Thunderbolt hitters one-two-three to end the game, giving River City the win. The winning pitcher was Chase Doremus with the loss going to starter Tad Burton
