Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA- A solo shot by All-Star outfielder Stewart Ijames was the difference maker as the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, defeated the visiting Florence Freedom in front of 3,125 fans at CONSOL Energy Park on Friday.

The victory resulted in the team's 30th win this season and their second against the Freedom. All-Star outfielder Stewart Ijames collected two RBI in the win.

Washington jumped out to an early lead as Ijames delivered an RBI single, plating Scott Kalamar to put the Things ahead 1-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kalamar powered his third home run of the season, a solo shot, to give the Wild Things a 2-0 advantage. The Wild Things added their final tally in the bottom of the eighth, as Ijames, who will likely represent the East in the 2014 Home Run Derby this upcoming week, cleared the deck with a solo homer over the right field wall to make the score 3-0.

The Wild Things shutout bid ended as closer Jonathan Kountis loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the ninth. Florence scored both runs in the ninth off a sacrifice fly and an RBI single but a flyout to left ended the Freedom threat and secured the home team the3-2 victory.

The Wild Things will play their second game of the series against the Florence Freedom Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 724-250-9555, visit the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office or log onto www.washingtonwildthings.com.
