Voss Strong as 'Wolves Take Game One of Tuesday's Doubleheader

The SeaWolves took game one of Tuesday night's doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium 3-1.

Binghamton struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning against Erie starter Jay Voss. Josh Satin led off the inning and connected on a solo home run to left, his sixth, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.

Erie promptly tied the game in the top of the fifth against Mets starter Robert Carson. Michael Rockett led off and doubled down the third base line for his first extra-base hit. Shawn Roof sacrificed Rockett over to third giving Erie a man at third with one out. Jamie Johnson singled to center, plating Rockett, tying the game.

The 'Wolves took the lead in the top of the sixth. Rawley Bishop led off with his second hit of the game and stole second for his 10th steal. Bishop's earlier hit in the fourth extended his season-best hitting streak to eight consecutive games. Bishop moved to third on a Justin Henry groundout and scored on a two-out single from John Murrian for a 2-1 Erie lead.

Erie added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Roof led off against Rhiner Cruz and connected on an opposite-field single to right for his second hit of the game. Roof advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Johnson base hit making it 3-1 SeaWolves.

Zach Simons, who retired the final hitter of the sixth, worked a perfect seventh to preserve the Erie win, earning his first save.

Voss (1-1) earned his first win as a SeaWolf allowing a run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
