Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of May 23rd through May 29th:

Harrisburg Senators first baseman Tyler Moore has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 23rd-May 29th. The 6'2", 185 lb. slugger appeared in eight games for the Senators last week and batted .448 (13-for-29) with four doubles, three home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a .897 slugging percentage. The 24-year old had multiple hits in five games last week and drove in at least one run in six of the eight games he played in while leading the Senators to a 7-1 record during the week. Moore led all Eastern League players in total bases (26) last week and he was also ranked among the weekly leaders in hits (13-2nd), extra-base hits (7-2nd), slugging percentage (.897-2nd), runs scored (7-tied 2nd), homers (3-tied 2nd), batting average (.448-3rd), OPS (1.359-3rd), doubles (4-tied 3rd) and RBI (7-tied 4th). The Brandon, Mississippi native is tied for first in the league in extra-base hits (25) this season and is ranked second in total bases (99) and slugging percentage (.538). Tyler, who had 31 homers and 111 RBI while winning the Carolina League MVP Award last season, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 16th round of the 2008 draft after hitting .299 with 14 homers and 46 RBI during his junior season at Mississippi State University.

Shaeffer Hall, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 23rd-May 29th. The 23-year old started two games for the Thunder last week and had a record of 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched. Hall made his first appearance of the week on Tuesday night at Reading and surrendered just five hits while striking out four batters in six shutout innings of work to earn the win as Trenton downed the R-Phils 5-2. In his second appearance of the week on Sunday afternoon at Portland the 6'1", 205 lb. hurler gave up two runs, one earned, while scattering eight hits and striking out four batters over seven innings to lead Trenton to a 5-2 victory. Hall, who is a native of Independence, Missouri, has a record of 4-3 with a 3.30 ERA for the Thunder this season. He is currently tied for the league lead in games started (10) and is ranked fourth in the league in innings pitched (60.0). Shaeffer, who combined for a record of 11-7 with a 2.89 ERA between the Charleston RiverDogs and the Tampa Yankees last season, was selected by the New York Yankees in the 25th round of the 2008 draft after posting a record of 5-6 with 65 strikeouts and a 4.18 ERA in 92.2 innings pitched during his junior season at Kansas University.
