Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Gateway Grizzlies are pleased to announce the contract of shortstop Vladimir Frias has been purchased by the Chicago Cubs.

Frias will report to High-A Daytona in the Cubs organization. It will be the third different organization Frias has been in. He previously spent time in the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox organizations.

The 25-year-old shortstop from Los Alcanzzas, Dominican Republic hit .283 in 32 games with the Grizzlies. He recorded three home runs while driving in 11 runs. Frias committed only four errors, and was regarded as one of the best defensive infielders in the Frontier League.

"We wish Vladimir the best and hope he does great with the Cubs," Grizzlies sixth-year manager Phil Warren said. "He was everything we expected and more. Not only was he great defensively, but he really swung the bat well the last couple of weeks."

The Grizzlies begin a nine-game homestand Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. For tickets, call 618.337.3000 or visit gatewaygrizzlies.com.
