MARION - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, began a six-game road trip by taking a 5-2 win over the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday night at Rent One Park.

The CornBelters scored first when Ernie Banks Jr. led off the second inning with a double, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a looping single to right by Bubby Williams.

The Belters put together a two-out rally in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead, as Ty Wiesemeyer was hit by a pitch followed by Bobby Rinard base hit, then a Steven Felix home run to the bullpen in right field completed the three-run frame.

The Miners got on the board in the sixth when Cory Harrilchek singled, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out base hit by Ken Gregory.

The CornBelters added another two-out run in the seventh as Andrew Cohn led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and came home on a hit to shallow left by Bobby Rinard to increase the Normal lead to 5-1.

The Miners scored a run in the eighth on consecutive doubles by Gerardo Avila and Chad Maddox, but left the bases loaded to keep the CornBelters lead at 5-2.

Drew Provence (3-1) earned the win with six innings of work, giving up seven hits while striking out one without a walk. Rich Mascheri recorded the final five outs for his tenth save. Brian Fowler (5-6) took the loss.

The CornBelters plan to send right-hander Tyler Lavigne (4-5, 4.79 ERA) to the mound in the second game of the series against Miners lefty Daniel Calhoun (4-2, 3.60 ERA). Wednesday night's game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 with WJBC.com pre-game from Rent One Park at 6:50.
