Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Gateway tied a franchise record with 19 wins in the month of July on Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark, as they eked past the Road Warriors 2-1 in game one of a three-contest set.

Grizzlies hurler Alex Kaminsky (7-4) delivered a seven inning, three hit gem to help boost the Grizzlies (39-28) past the Road Warriors (2-5), which moved Gateway only one game back of the Schaumburg Boomers for first place in the Frontier League West Division. Claiming the win, Kaminsky allowed only one earned in his outing and sat down five Warriors by way of strikeout.

"We just try to have fun, that is the big thing," commented the Ohio native and righty. "We are solid as a unit right now and everything is coming together. You have to love this club to make a big playoff push."

A playoff push no doubt, as Gateway has surged to a 12-3 record in their last 15 contests while staking claim to seven straight series. Additionally, the club notched their 19th win in the month of July, tying a franchise record set back in 2007.

Offensive production was again supplied by slugger Rogelio Noris, who went 1-for-4 with a solo home run to help pace the Grizzlies bats. Third baseman Chris McClendon also turned in a steady performance at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while fellow middle infielder Jonathan Johnson kept his on base streak alive, moving it to a league-record 66 games.

Gateway will return to GCS Ballpark Wednesday night for game two of the series with the Road Warriors. Right-hander Brett Zawacki (1-1) gets the start for the Grizzlies at 7:05.
