January 7, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL have announced that former all-star goaltender and assistant coach NICK VITUCCI will have his #36 jersey retired prior to the Greenville Grrrowl home game on Tuesday, January 13th. Nick will be in town with his Toledo Storm for that game on the 13th, and will be on the bench as the head coach of the Storm.

Vitucci was the first Greenville Grrrowl player signed to an ECHL contract in 1998, and played out his career, which spanned 13 seasons in professional hockey, in Greenville. The list of honors for Vitucci is long and distinguished, capped by his place on the ECHL 15th Anniversary First-Team, which honored the best players in league history. Vitucci holds more championships as a player and coach than any other person in league history, with five rings to his credit – including the 2002 Kelly Cup Champion Greenville Grrrowl.

"V2C", as he is known to ECHL hockey fans, finished his career with 559 games played (479 regular season, and 80 post-season). His career record is 308-187-39, with a save percentage over 90%. Nick holds 7 ECHL Career Regular season records, and 3 post-season records.

Among the festivities planned for the night will be the unveiling of a banner that will remain in the BI-LO Center permanently, signifying that #36 will be the first Grrrowl jersey retired, and that it will never be worn again.

Greenville travels to Charleston to take on the Stingrays on Friday night, and will return to the BI-LO Center (7:05pm) on Saturday, January 10, 2004 to take on the Florida Everblades, and will player the Toledo Storm at home on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 – a 7:05pm start. Greenville Grrrowl single-game tickets, mini-plans and flex packs are on sale now. Fans can call 864-467-GRRR or log on to grrrowl.com for more information.
