Wildcatters Dumped By Gulls

San Diego, CA (January 6, 2004) - The Texas Wildcatters started their six-game West Coast road trip with a hard fought loss 4-3 against the San Diego Gulls. The two teams combined for 18 shots on goal in a scoreless first period. Davis Parley, who started his team high seventh straight game, had eight saves for the Wildcatters in the opening period.

San Diego opened the scoring in the second period while on the power play, with Mike Garrow tapping in his tenth of the year on a centering feed from Mark Pederson. The puck took a bad bounce off the glass and caught Parley on the wrong side of the net. Billy Tibbetts would double the lead with his seventh of the year on a nice pass from Pederson. The Wildcatters pulled with in one to close out the second with a power play goal. Rob Guinn fired a one-time shot past San Diego goaltender David Burleigh, after good puck movement by Rae Metz and John Campbell.

Lukas Smital tied the game early in the third with a nifty backhanded shot for his eighth of the year. The Gulls would regain a two goal lead with Pederson and Dan Cousineau scoring. John Snowden gave Wildcatters a chance to tie the game when he pulled the team within one on his 13th goal of the season. Davis Parley suffered his 11th loss of the year with 28 saves.
