Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â After getting called-up to the San Jose Sharks for their 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, Fresno Falcons goaltender Nolan Schaefer was then assigned to the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League yesterday.
Originally slated to return to Fresno after serving as back-up to Vesa Toskala in Vancouver, Sharks management instead sent Schaefer to Cleveland for his second stint with the Barons this season. Injuries to both of Cleveland's goaltenders necessitated the move. In two previous starts with Fresno's AHL affiliate, Schaefer posted a record of 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and 95.7% save percentage. He is scheduled to make his third start for the Barons on Friday as they begin a five-game road trip against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Schaefer is 5-5-0 with a 3.12 goals against average and 91.0% save percentage in 12 appearances with the Falcons. He learned of his call-up to the Sharks after making a Falcons season-high 44 saves in a 5-4 overtime win against the Idaho Steelheads on Jan. 3.
The Falcons start a five-game homestand at Save Mart Center beginning on Friday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. when they host the Idaho Steelheads for the third time in four games. The first 1,000 kids 14 and under will receive a Falcons backpack courtesy of KSEE 24 and MEGA 97.9, and after the game all fans are invited to join the Falcons players at Tony Roma's located on the southwest corner of Shaw and Cedar.
Tickets for the game on Friday are still available for as little as $8 and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
