Fresno Falcons News Release
LAS VEGAS â A one-goal game heading to the third period, the Las Vegas Wranglers scored within the final frame's first minute and cruised to a 5-1 victory against the Fresno Falcons on Tuesday at the Orleans Arena.
Fresno controlled play in the first period, outshooting Las Vegas 14-7, but trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Wranglers worked on the power play when a shot off the stick of Mike McBain deflected directly to Chris Kenady, who had a wide-open net at 13:09 of the frame.
The roles were reversed for much of the second as Las Vegas generated the better chances on their way to a 14-6 edge in shots. Falcons goaltender Terry Friesen held the fort, though, and when Blair Clarance scored unassisted after stealing a Wranglers outlet pass the game was tied at one. Las Vegas responded two minutes later when Greg Day received a perfect outlet pass through the neutral zone and polished off the ensuing clean breakaway to give his club a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.
Mike McBain then unleashed a shot from just inside the Fresno blue line that beat Friesen through a screen to give the Wranglers a two-goal lead just :52 seconds into the third. Eric Schneider and Kenady added insurance goals down the stretch as the Falcons dropped to 0-3-0 versus their Pacific Division rivals.
Fresno has now gone winless over their last 11 road games, standing in sixth place in the Pacific with an overall mark of 10-20-3.
The Falcons now return home for five games in a row at Save Mart Center beginning on Friday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. when they host the Idaho Steelheads for the third time in four games. The first 1,000 kids 14 and under will receive a Falcons backpack courtesy of KSEE 24 and MEGA 97.9, and after the game all fans are invited to join the Falcons players at Tony Roma's located on the southwest corner of Shaw and Cedar.
Tickets for the game on Friday are still available for as little as $8 and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
