Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine - Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino is expected to join the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment on Tuesday, June 30th, at Hadlock Field when the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 7:00 PM.
Victorino, 34, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 24th with a left calf strain. In 20 games with the Red Sox this season, the outfielder is hitting .255 (14-for-55) with six runs scored, two doubles, one home run, three RBI, nine walks, nine strikeouts, and three stolen bases.
Victorino began his current rehab assignment with the Pawtucket Red Sox on June 24th. He appeared in four games for the PawSox and hit .308 (4-for-13) with a double and a run scored.
A two-time World Series Champion (Red Sox, 2013; Phillies, 2008), Victorino is in his third season in the Red Sox organization after spending nine years in the majors with the Padres (2003), Phillies (2005-12), and Dodgers (2012). He was acquired by the Red Sox as a free agent on December 13, 2012. An All-Star in 2009 and 2011, Victorino has played in 1,248 games and compiled a career line of .277/.341/.430 with 108 home runs, 485 RBI, 718 runs scored, 1,247 hits, and 603 stolen bases. He is also a four-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner.
This is Victorino's second time rehabbing with Portland in 2015. He appeared in two games for the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field on May 8th and May 9th and went a combined 0-for-6 with one strikeout while playing right field.
This will mark the fourth time this season the Sea Dogs have hosted a Red Sox player on a rehab assignment. Victorino was the first, followed by Justin Masterson (June 5) and Ryan Hanigan (June 28-29).
