Joe Sever's big night at the plate leads the Akron RubberDucks to a 5-2 victory over Bowie Baysox Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Trailing 1-0, Akron scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and would never relinquish the lead. Todd Hankins and Ryan Rohlinger each had RBI groundouts while Anthony Gallas delivered an RBI single later in the inning.

Mound Presence

Zach Nuding made a spot start for the RubberDucks, he allowed just one hit and one earned run in his four innings of work. His season ERA was elevated to 2.04. Louis Head and Trey Haley pitched two scoreless innings for Akron. Josh Martin allowed an earned run for just the fourth time in 24 appearances this season.

Notes

Yandy Diaz made a phenomenal diving play on the line in the top of the second inning to save a sure double. Joe Sever's double in the bottom of the fifth was his first hit at the Double-A level. Ryan Rohlinger recorded his first Akron RBI of the season on a groundout in the fifth inning. Todd Hankins stole his 16th base of the season which leads the team. Ronny Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to eight games with a bunt single. Sever also hit a two run homer which was also his first in Double-A...Time of game was: 2:31 ...Attendance: 2,630.

The RubberDucks and Baysox will play game two of their four-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Parker Bridwell (3-4, 4.12) will go for Bowie, while LHP Ryan Merritt (5-6, 3.59) is on the mound for the RubberDucks.
