
Kleven earns win in AA debut

Colin Kleven (1-0) shined in his AA debut as he allowed just one run in six innings in guiding the Fightin Phils (41-36) to a 6-1 win over the New Britain Rock Cats (41-36). Reading is now tied with New Britain for first place. Kelly Dugan recorded a four hit game for the Fightins.
Drew Heid recorded his first RBI as a Fightin Phil with a single off Ryan Carpenter (4-8) in the top of the second inning to score Brock Stassi. Andrew Knapp scored on a throwing error by Noel Cuevas to give the Fightin Phils a 2-0 lead. The Rock Cats scored a run off Kleven in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI groundout by Jeremy Barfield to cut the Fightins lead to 2-1.
Kelly Dugan extended the lead 3-1 for the Fightin Phils with a RBI single off Carpenter in the top of the third inning. Dugan also extended his hitting streak to five games. Colin Kleven was finished after six innings in which he allowed just one run off three hits with four strikeouts.
Tom Windle entered the game in relief of Kleven. He would be making his first relief appearance since 4/6/14 for Rancho Cucamonga (A). He pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up one hit and one walk but recorded one strikeout. Reinier Roibal tossed a scoreless top of the eighth inning recording one strikeout.
The Fightin Phils scored three runs off Tyler Ybarra in the top of the ninth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Andrew Knapp hit a bases-loaded two-run single and Brock Stassi scored on a throwing error by Will Swanner. Stephen Shackleford struck out two batters in the bottom of the ninth inning to finish the game for Reading.
The Fightin Phils and New Britain Rock Cats will play again on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm from New Britain Stadium. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:35 pm.
