EL1 Harrisburg Senators

Senators Run Winning Streak to Seven

June 30, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators extended their season-long winning streak to seven with a 2-0 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels Tuesday at Metro Bank Park. The Senators (37-41) are within four games of .500 for the first time since May 26.

Matt Skole ended June in a big way by doubling twice in four at-bats. His first double, which came in the first inning, scored Chris Bostick, and put the Senators on top, 1-0. The Senators finished with just five hits, but left the bases loaded in the sixth inning before adding insurance in the eighth. Brian Goodwin walked with one out, and came around to score on an RBI double by Drew Vettleson with two outs.

Richard Bleier continued his outstanding season by throwing seven innings of shutout baseball. The lefty scattered six hits, walked one and struck out two while throwing 60 of his 80 pitches for strikes. The closest Richmond came to scoring was when it strung together three straight hits in the sixth inning, but the first hit - a single - was followed by a caught stealing. Another single followed, but then Bleier picked that runner off first. A triple followed the pickoff, and Bleier stranded that runner by snaring a liner right back to him on the mound. Sam Runion earned a hold by pitching a scoreless eighth and Gilberto Mendez saved his eighth game by striking out a pair of batters in a scoreless ninth.

The Senators will try to extend their winning streak to eight tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. The pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
