
Hobson Hits Grand Slam in Win over Portland

PORTLAND, ME - K. C. Hobson hit a grand slam and Joel Pineiro won his fourth consecutive decision as the Fisher Cats opened a series in Portland with a 7-4 win over the Sea Dogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
The Fisher Cats hit a grand slam for the first time this season in the top of the third inning. Dalton Pompey and Dwight Smith Jr. singled and Jon Berti walked. K.C. Hobson's line drive to right field cleared the fence for this 10th home run and a 4-0 lead for New Hampshire.
New Hampshire (36-39) added a run in the top of the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead. Ian Parmley walked, moved to third on a single by Jorge Flores, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Pompey.
Another sacrifice fly produced a run for the Fisher Cats in the top of the sixth inning. Jon Berti walked, stole second, moved to third on a fly out by Hobson, scoring on a Kevin Nolan fly to make it 6-0.
Portland (28-50) battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Keury De La Cruz walked and Jake Romanski singled. Marco Hernandez singled, plating De La Cruiz and Romanski scored on a single by Shane Victorino, who was in Portland on an MLB Rehab Assignment. Carlos Asuaje flied to deep center, and after making the catch, Pompey fell and both runners tagged up and scored to cut the lead to 6-4.
The Fisher Cats added an insurance run in the eighth. Parmley again walked and scored on a double by Flores.
Pineiro worked seven innings for New Hampshire. He improved to 4-2 on the season, allowing four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out two. Cory Burns pitched a perfect eighth before Dustin Antolin closed out the Sea Dogs for his second save.
Justin Haley (2-9) took the loss for the Sea Dogs.
