Victoria Avenges Last Night, Downs Tri-City 6-2

Victoria, BC- The Tri-City Americans (17-21-2-0, 36 pts) tried to make it two wins in a row against the Victoria Royals (24-14-1-3, 52 pts), but the Royals received a hat-trick from Alex Forsberg, pacing Victoria to a 6-2 win in front of 3,451 fans at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Wednesday Night.

Midway through the first period, Victoria took the lead, as Jack Walker fired a wrist shot into twine for the 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, Logan Fisher skated to the net and was able to get the puck into the net for a 2-0 lead after one period.

About three minutes into the second, Victoria scored a shorthanded goal from Tyler Soy to push the score to 3-0. Two minutes later, Alex Forsberg added a goal, putting the Royals ahead 4-0. Tri-City tried to get something going, as Nolan Yaremko cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net, cutting the score to 4-1 Victoria. But a minute later, the deficit returned to four goals, as Forsberg deflected a puck into the net for his second of the night to push the lead to 5-1 after two periods.

The Americans fought to get back into the game. Tri-City cut the lead to 5-2 midway through the third, as Morgan Geekie beat Griffen Outhouse gloveside to give the Americans some momentum. The Americans outshot the Royals 19-5 in the third period, but the Royals slammed the door shut late in the third, as Forsberg completed the hat trick, putting the puck into a wide open net on the power play to seal the win for Victoria.

Tri-City was unable to score with four power play chances and spent eight minutes in the penalty box. Victoria converted 2-of-4 power play chances and recorded eight penalty minutes.

Evan Sarthou got the start for Tri-City and made 5 saves. Nicholas Sanders came on midway through the first and made 24 saves in the loss. Griffen Outhouse stopped 38 shots in the win.

Tri-City will hit the road and head north to face the Kamloops Blazers (18-14-4-2, 42 pts) this Friday, Jan. 8. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Sandman Centre.
