Hitmen Defenceman Jake Bean Named to Team Orr
January 7, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate sophomore defenceman Jake Bean on being named to Team Orr for the 2016 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. The contest will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, in Vancouver, BC. With the addition of Bean, a CHL-high 27 Hitmen players will have participated at this event since 1996.
"This is a great opportunity for Jake, achieved through the hard work he's put in to become one of the elite defencemen in our league" said Trent Whitfield, Hitmen assistant coach. "He's one of our leaders offensively while playing a lot of minutes for us in key situations."
The Calgary, Alberta, product is currently second among all Western Hockey League defencemen with 38 points in 40 games. Bean also shares the league lead for goals by defencemen with 15.
The 17-year-old has developed a strong resume since joining the Hitmen as a protected list addition in September of 2013, helping Canada win gold at the 2015 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup this past summer and setting a franchise record in 2014-15 for most points in a single season by a rookie defenceman with 39 (5g, 34a) in 51 games.
NHL Central Scouting Service ranked Bean an "A' level prospect in its Players to Watch list for November, indicating a first-round candidate in the 2016 NHL Draft.
Bean and the Hitmen return to action on Friday, Jan. 8, when the Vancouver Giants visit the Scotiabank Saddledome for Faith & Family Night presented by Shine FM and YES TV (7:00 p.m., Sportsnet 960-The Fan).
Individual Hitmen game day tickets are available at Ticketmaster locations and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office. Order online at HitmenHockey.com or by phone at 1-855-985-5000. For more ticket information, contact customer service at 403-777-4646.
