Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Dayton, OH - Drew Vettleson recorded three hits, but the Dayton Dragons (27-37) won 9-5 over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (34-30) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field. Todd Glaesmann also hit his eighth home run of the season, but it was not enough as the Hot Rods dropped the series two games to three. Despite the defeat, the Hot Rods still own a two-game lead for the Eastern Division first-half Wild Card spot.
Bowling Green's offense was clicking early in the game as the Hot Rods scored one run in the second and another in the third. Tyler Goeddel drove in the game's first run with an RBI-double in the second, and Vettleson added an RBI-single in the next frame. After two and a half innings, the Hot Rods held a 2-0 advantage.
The Dragons then scored five runs in the bottom of the third off of Hot Rods starter Ryan Carpetner to take a 5-2 lead. Josh Sale singled in a run in the top of the fifth, but the Dragons added two more tallies in the bottom of the same frame. The Dragons never looked back as the Hot Rods offense struggled to score the rest of the night. In the loss, Bowling Green's offense managed just four hits in 17 chances with runners in scoring position and stranded ten total runners.
With the final road trip of the first half in the rear-view mirror, the Hot Rods return home to Bowling Green Ballpark on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CDT to begin the final homestand of the season's first half. The six-game homestand will begin with the Hot Rods hosting the West Michigan Whitecaps (Future Tigers) for a three-game set. On Tuesday, the Hot Rods will give the pearl to RHP Roberto Gomez (5-2, 2.80), while the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Brennan Smith (1-3, 3.60).
