Dayton, Ohio-Sean Buckley had three hits including two doubles and Kyle Waldrop hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 9-5 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods before a crowd of 8,151 on Monday night. The win gave the Dragons their fourth straight series victory. They have won eight of their last 11 home games.
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Bill Bray, on an injury rehabilitation assignment with the Dragons, earned the victory. He faced five batters and was extremely sharp without allowing a base runner, notching three strikeouts, a ground out, and in infield pop out.
The Dragons enjoyed a five-run third inning to come back from a 2-0 deficit. Most of the production in the inning came after two men were out. Buckley led off the inning with a double and scored on James Ewing's single to make it 2-1, but after Ewing was caught stealing, there were two outs with the bases were empty. Juan Perez restarted the rally with a bunt single and scored on Kurtis Muller's double to tie the game. After Juan Silva walked, Steve Selsky doubled to drive in both Muller and Silva and give the Dragons a 4-2 lead. Waldrop singled in Selsky to make it 5-2.
Bowling Green scored one run in the fifth against Dragons starting pitcher Tanner Robles and Bray entered the game with one out in the inning and runners at first and third. Bray got the first hitter he faced on an infield pop out and then notched a strikeout to retire the side and strand two. The Dragons scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 7-3 lead, keyed by Buckley's RBI double. Bray pitched a perfect sixth inning before give way to Cole Green, who fired two scoreless frames.
Waldrop hit a lead-off home run in the eighth inning, his third of the season. Buckley followed with a base hit and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-3. Bowling Green's Todd Glaesmann hit a two-run home run in the ninth off Dragons reliever Carlos Contreras to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Tanner Robles went the first four and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts. He did not go the required minimum of five innings to qualify for the win.
The Dragons finished with 12 hits. Along with Buckley's three hits, Waldrop, Perez, and Selsky each had three.
The Dragons (27-37) travel to Midland, Michigan to meet the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. (WONE 980 AM). Stalin Gerson (3-4, 4.18) will start for Dayton against Great Lakes' Jarret Martin (2-4, 4.13).
