BURLINGTON, Iowa (6/11/12) - The Burlington Bees (28-35) engaged in another shootout with the Quad Cities River Bandits (31-33), but couldn't keep up with the Bandits' offense and lost 18-to-7. The Bees pitching staff allowed 33 runs in two games and lost the series two games to one.

Drew Granier came into the game with the tall task of holding down an offense that ranked first in runs scored with 373; first in home runs with 56; and tied for first in batting average with a .265 team clip. But Granier (8-3) also came into the game with the most wins in the Midwest League and the third best ERA (1.89).

Unfortunately even the ace of the staff will have a bad day once in awhile and for Granier, Monday night was his first truly bad start this year. The right-hander surrendered five runs in the top of the third inning to put the Bees behind 5-to-0.

The big blows came from Nick Martini who had a two-run double and Tyler Rahmatulla who launched a three-run home run. The home run was Rahmatulla's third home run in two games and second three-run dinger. At that point he had nine consecutive hits against the Bees in this series. He fell just short of tying the Midwest League record of ten straight hits against an opponent.

Granier allowed a two-run homer in the fourth and four more runs in the sixth. He actually left in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs, but Brent Powers allowed all three runs to score before the inning ended. Granier took his third loss after allowing 13 hits, 11 runs (ten earned) and two home runs. Each number is a season-worst for Granier. The right- hander has one more start scheduled before he makes his first appearance in a minor league all-star game on June 19.

Powers didn't fair much better and allowed four runs in the top of the seventh. Bees' catcher John Nester actually pitched the top of the ninth and loaded the bases. He allowed three runs, but his inning was highlighted by his strikeout of Rahmatulla.

The Bees scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth after Bobby Crocker and Wade Kirkland hit two-run home runs. The Bees received good production from their fifth through seventh spots in the lineup. Crocker, Nick Rickles, and Kirkland all had two RBIs. Rickles actually finished the game by going 3-for-3 with a run in addition to his two RBIs.

After going 5-2 on their previous home stand, the Bees lost four of their six recent games at Community Field. They to Ce- dar Rapids to start a three-day commute to face the Kernels. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
