Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - The Lansing Lugnuts (44-19) defeated the Lake County Captains (29-34) on Monday night by a score of 7-1. The Lugnuts scored six runs in the first inning. The Lugnuts out scored the Captains 14-0 in the first inning during the three game series. Lansing sent ten men to the plate and scored six times. Kevin Pillar had a two run single and Shane Opitz capped off the inning with a two run double and the Lugnuts lead 6-0 after one inning.
Lansing added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. K.C. Hobson took a pitch to the opposite field and hit it over the wall for his fifth homer of the year and the score was 7-0 Lansing in through five innings.
In the sixth, Lake County scored a run. Todd Hankins walked and was doubled to third by Alex Monsalve. Alex Lavisky then hit a groundball to shortstop, Shane Opitz conceded the run and threw across the get Lavisky at first base. Hankins scored and the score was 7-1 Lansing. The Captains are now 1-6 in Lanisng this season.
LHP Justin Nicolino (2-0) was the starter for the Lugnuts and did not factor into the decision. Nicolino pitched four innings, allowing just two hits he walked four and struck out six. RHP Aaron Sanchez (6-0) earned the win for Lansing. Sanchez pitched two innings allowing one earned run on two hits, he struck out two and walked one. The rest of the Lansing pen pitched three scoreless innings to preserve the win.
RHP Cody Anderson (4-4) got the start for the Captains, and took the loss. Cody pitched four and two thirds innings and allowed seven runs, four earned he surrendered seven hits, three walks and allowed one home run to K.C. Hobson. Grant Sides and Jeff Johnson combined to pitch three and a third scoreless innings which extends the bullpen's scoreless inning streak to 15.1
The home stand begins on Tuesday with the first of four Bark in the Park Nights, presented by Home Savings. Dog owners can bring their dog to the park when they purchase a $5 pooch pass. A portion of the proceeds from the pooch passes will benefit local dog charities. Dog owners can purchase their tickets for a special $7 discounted price. Game time is 7:00 PM vs. South Bend. The Captains will send LHP Shawn Morimando (1-1, 4.42) to the mound and South Bend will counter with RHP Jesse Darrah (5-2, 3.77).
