Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Quad Cities River Bandits third baseman Tyler Rahmatulla singled and homered in his first two at-bats to come within one hit of the Midwest League record for consecutive hits, second baseman Colin Walsh hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, and left-hander Kyle Hald went seven innings for his third straight win in the River Bandits' 18-7 victory over the Burlington Bees at Community Field Monday night.

Quad Cities (31-33) scored three or more runs in four different frames, including a five-run third inning that broke up a scoreless game. Nick Martini drove in two runs with a double to left field and Tyler Rahmatulla picked up where he left off with his 6-for-6 performance, hitting a three-run home run to give the River Bandits the early 5-0 advantage. This base hit followed a second inning-single, bringing Rahmatulla within one of the Midwest League record for consecutive base hits. However, he grounded out in his next at-bat to end his streak at nine at-bats.

The River Bandits added two runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by David Medina and after Burlington scored once in the bottom of the inning, Quad Cities scored four times in both the sixth and seventh innings. An RBI single by River Bandits' shortstop Matt Williams started the scoring in the sixth, and was capped by an RBI double by Rahmatulla. The Quad Cities' third baseman ended the night 3-for-6 with a home run and four runs batted in.

Burlington (28-35) scored once in the bottom of the sixth and seventh, but a seventh inning grand slam by Colin Walsh gave Quad Cities a 15-3 lead. Walsh trails only Miguel Sano of Beloit in home runs amongst Midwest League players, with a career-high 14 homers. Walsh ended the night 2-for-3 with six runs batted in to back starter Kyle Hald.

Hald (3-3) turned in his third consecutive start of at least seven innings, allowing just three earned runs over his seven innings, walking one and striking out three. Burlington starting pitcher Drew Granier (8-3) lasted five innings, and allowed a season-high ten earned runs and thirteen base hits.

Right-hander Willy Paulino allowed four runs in the bottom of the eighth, on a pair of two-run home runs =AC - a shot to right field by Bobby Crocker and a homer to left field by Bees' second baseman Wade Kirkland. Quad Cities answered back in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs: two via an RBI double by Anthony Garcia and one courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Walsh.

Heath Wyatt struck out the side in the ninth to close out his 22nd game of the season, which is second-best in the Midwest League.

The River Bandits conclude the first half with a six-game home stand, beginning tomorrow against the Kane County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (3-4) will start for Quad Cities and right-hander Kellen Moen (2-2) is scheduled to start for the Cougars.
