TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers suffered a 12-2 loss to the Las Vegas 51s at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.

Tacoma's troubles began early after surrendering five runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a one-out, three-run home run, and two batters later, Brandon Allen took a two-run blast deep. The deficit expanded to 7-0 after Alex Castellanos hit a two-run home run with one out in the third.

Las Vegas' advantage stretched to 9-0 after tacking on two more runs in the fourth inning. Dilson Herrera hit an RBI single and then scored on a sacrifice fly from the outfielder Nieuwenhuis.

The Rainiers first trip onto the scoreboard came in the bottom of the sixth. Third baseman Patrick Kivlehan lined a double to left field that scored a pair of runs with one out in the frame.

A two-run double hit by Dan Rohlfing and an RBI single from Wifredo Tovar helped Las Vegas up their lead to ten runs with two outs in the top of the ninth.

Stefen Romero and Jesus Montero led a Rainiers lineup that collected a combined eight hits after each posted two-hit efforts. Montero leads the Pacific Coast League with 101 hits through his first 78 games played this season.

Starter Jordan Pries (3-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering five runs on three hits and two walks through 0.1 innings of action.
