Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Darnell Sweeney hit a three-run home run to power the visiting Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 3-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds in the finale of our four-game series in front of a season-high 8,548 fans on Friday night at AutoZone Park.
The loss marked the first four-game series sweep by an opponent since June 14-17, 2013 when the then Dodgers' affiliate Isotopes took out the brooms in Albuquerque, 747 days ago. The current four-game losing streak matches the club's longest skid April 16 - April 27.
The Redbirds offense stranded 10 and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Outfielder Stephen Piscotty added his team-leading 24th double in the loss.
Memphis scored both of its runs in the first inning against Dodgers starter Scott Baker, moving out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies by Ed Easley and Jacob Wilson. Leadoff man Rafael Ortega got things started with a double and scored the Redbirds' first run. Dan Johnson singled and scored on Wilson's fly.
In his Triple-A debut, Redbirds starter Jimmy Reed (0-1) surrendered three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings in the loss. The left-hander walked none, fanned three and threw 46 of his 71 pitches for strikes.
The Redbirds travel to Colorado Springs for Independence Day for a four-game series against the Sky Sox (Brewers) at Security Service Field. Right-hander Zach Petrick (4-4, 3.94) will make the start for Memphis in the series opener against Sky Sox right-hander Tim Dillard (2-1, 3.90).
