July 3, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Darnell Sweeney's three-run homer in the fifth inning provided all of the Oklahoma City Dodgers' runs, and the Dodgers pitching staff held the Memphis Redbirds scoreless after the first inning in a 3-2 win Friday night at AutoZone Park.

The win gave the league-leading Dodgers (53-27) their second series sweep of the season, and marked the first-ever sweep of the Redbirds in Memphis by an Oklahoma City team since joining the PCL in 1998.

Oklahoma City's record improved to 26 games above .500, matching the team's best-ever record set Sept. 2, 1999 when the team stood 82-56.

The Redbirds (41-41) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Memphis' Rafael Ortega doubled, and advanced to third on an error. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ed Easley for the first run of the night. Dan Johnson followed with a one-out single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Wilson for a 2-0 Memphis advantage.

Oklahoma City's lone runs of the night came in the fifth inning on one swing by Sweeney.

O'Koyea Dickson doubled to lead off the inning for Oklahoma City. Buck Britton followed with a single. Then with one out, Sweeney brought both players home and pushed Oklahoma City into the lead with a three-run home run to left center field for a 3-2 Dodgers advantage.

Sweeney extended his hitting streak to six games. The PCL All-Star is 12-for-24 with seven extra-base hits, including three homers, with seven RBI and seven runs during the stretch.

Dodgers starting pitcher Scott Baker left Friday's game with two outs in the third inning due to an apparent injury. He allowed two runs and four hits over 2.2 innings.

Oklahoma City reliever Matt West (1-1) entered the game in the third inning and pitched 2.1 scoreless frames, allowing two hits with three strikeouts, in the win.

Dodgers pitchers Danny Coulombe and Juan Gonzalez combined to toss three scoreless frames before Ryan Buchter pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season.

Redbirds starting pitcher Jimmy Reed (0-1) took the loss for Memphis, allowing three runs and seven hits over 4.1 innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out three.

The sweep of Memphis marked the first by Oklahoma City against the Redbirds since July 22-25, 2011 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Friday also marked the first time Memphis had been swept by any team since June 14-17, 2013, and marked the first sweep for the Redbirds at home since May 25-28, 2012.

The Dodgers return home for a four-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers starting at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The Dodgers' Independence Day celebration is scheduled to include pregame sky divers and a postgame fireworks show presented by LifeShare of Oklahoma.

A limited number of lawn tickets remain for Saturday's game. OKC Dodgers tickets are available through the box office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive, by calling (405) 218-1000, or ordering through okcdodgers.com.

Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
