Oklahoma City Comets News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers and LifeShare will honor two friends forever linked by organ donation and encourage guests to become Everlasting Fans during the Saturday, July 4 OKC Dodgers game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Friends Cheryl Manley and Stephanie Baker are eternally intertwined by the gift of organ donation. Both suffered the unthinkable loss of having children pass away. Both of their children were organ donors, which brought Manley and Baker together initially. Baker later needed a kidney transplant, and Manley became her donor in October 2014.

"Cheryl Manley, Stephanie Baker and their families offer an excellent example of the amazing gift of organ donation," OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "Organ donation helps save lives, and OKC Dodgers fans can register to become organ donors, or Everlasting Fans, right here at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark during our Independence Day game to assist with this great cause."

Manley, of Tulsa, participated in the 2015 Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on New Year's Day, walking with the Donate Life Float that featured her late daughter Amanda Philpott. Manley also serves as co-manager of Team Oklahoma, a group of transplant recipients and donor families who participate in athletic events to celebrate the success of organ, eye and tissue donation.

OKC Dodgers fans can register to become an organ donor during Saturday's game against the Omaha Storm Chasers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark by visiting the LifeShare table located on the concourse behind home plate. Fans who sign up will receive a free T-shirt and be entered to win a lifetime supply of Big League Chew.

First pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and gates open at 6 p.m. Manley and Baker, of Talala, will be recognized at the end of the third inning.

LifeShare "strives to raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation through public education," according to the LifeShare website. The organization works "with the community and media to inspire Oklahomans to register to be a donor and help save lives."

LifeShare was created in 1986 and is a nonprofit, federally designed organ procurement organization dedicated to the recovery of organs and tissue for transplant purposes. LifeShare works closely with four transplant centers and 145 health care organizations in Oklahoma to facilitate donation.
