Vaughan Promoted to Triple-A, Gassner Activated from DL

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Beau Vaughan has been promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. Right-handed pitcher Dave Gassner has been activated from the disabled list. Gassner will start Friday's regularly scheduled game against the Connecticut Defenders in Norwich, Connecticut, which will follow the completion of Thursday's suspended game.

The 27 year-old Vaughan has made 39 appearances for the Sea Dogs this season posting a 2-1 record with 16 saves and a 2.12 ERA, earning him a selection to the 2008 Eastern League All-Star Game. His 16 saves is tied with Greenville's Felix Ventura for the most amongst Red Sox farmhands this season. Vaughan has retired the last 10 batters he has faced and has an ERA of 0.29 in his last 24 games. He has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances. Vaughan has recorded a strikeout in 31 of 39 outings this season. The Glendale, Arizona resident was selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.

Gassner has made 11 starts for the Sea Dogs this season notching a 4-5 record with a 6.98 ERA. He has earned the win in his last three starts. The 29 year-old joined the Sea Dogs on June 6th when the Red Sox purchased his contract from York of the Atlantic League. Gassner had been sidelined since August 1st with a calf injury.
