August 8, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Binghamton, NY- Brandon Magee pitched into the eighth inning to register his fifth consecutive victory, Mike MacDonald recorded five outs for his first career Eastern League save and Brian Dopirak went 3-for-4 with and a double and two RBIs in his Eastern League debut as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Binghamton Mets, 4-2, on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

New Hampshire (6-11) raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against losing pitcher Eric Brown (5-9) when Eric Nielsen (0-for-3, BB, R) and Kyle Phillips (0-for-3, BB, R) drew back-to-back, one-out walks. David Smith (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) doubled down the left field line to score Nielsen, and Phillips came home on an RBI ground out by J.P. Arencibia (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI). In his first Eastern League at-bat, Dopirak (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) grounded a single to centerfield, plating Smith for a 3-0 lead.

Dopirak delivered another RBI single in the top of the fourth inning against Brown, scoring Arencibia (double) from second base for a 4-0 lead.

Brown (5-9) went eight innings, matching a career high, allowing four runs on five hits to suffer the loss. He struck out five and walked two.

Binghamton (63-58) spoiled Magee's scoreless-innings string at 16.1, a Fisher Cats' season high, when Fernando Martinez (2-for-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, R) belted a two-run home run, his sixth, over the rightfield wall in the bottom of the eighth inning, trimming the deficit to 4-2.

Magee (6-11) went 7.1 innings to win his fifth consecutive decision, allowing two runs on eight hits. The right-hander fanned four and walked one to move into a tie with Robert Ray and now Triple-A pitcher Brett Cecil for the team lead in victories.

MacDonald, transferred from Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the day, retired all five batters he faced to notch his first career Double-A save.

On Saturday night, New Hampshire sends right-hander Robert Ray (6-4, 3.19) to the mound against Binghamton left-hander Mike Antonini (0-1, 4.76) at 7:05pm. Radio coverage from NYSEG Stadium begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
