Norwich, CT- Portland Sea Dogs catcher John Otness has been placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury. To fill his roster spot, the Boston Red Sox have promoted C Juan Apodaca from Single-A Greenville (South Atlantic League).

Otness is batting .254 through 66 games with Portland. He has also homered twice and driven in 33 runs on the season.

Apodaca comes to Portland after splitting time with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox (Rookie League) and the Greenville Drive. Apodaca spent most of the season with Greenville, appearing in 16 games, 14 as a catcher. He leaves the Drive batting .217 (10-for-46), with 0 HR and 4 RBI. The 22-year-old Apodaca is in his first season with the Boston Red Sox system. He spend his entire pro career through 2007 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system. For the Dodgers, he played at all levels beginning with the DSL Dodgers as a 16-year-old free agent in 2003 continuing through Class AAA Las Vegas (2005). In 2007, he split time between Double-A Jacksonville (Southern League) and Low-A Great Lakes (Midwest League).
