Bullpen Blues...A three-run rally in the top of the seventh gave the Aeros a one-run advantage last night, but relievers Erik Stiller and Scott Roehl were unable to navigate through the final outs with the lead intact as Trenton rallied for a 5-4 win the series opener. Akron sent eight men to the plate in the seventh, sandwiching a pair of bases-loaded walks around an RBI single from CF Jose Constanza to take a short-lived 3-2 lead. The Thunder mounted a two-out rally against Stiller to tie the game in the bottom of the inning however, and then surged ahead when PJ Pilittere drove home the two deciding runs on a two-out infield single off Roehl (the runs were charged to Stiller). The Aeros got an RBI double from Constanza in the ninth to slice the margin to a single run, but with the speedster at third and one away closer Zach Kroenke handled a come-backer from RF Bronson Sardinha and threw out Constanza at the plate. Trenton's late rally spelled another no-decision for Aeros starter Ryan Edell, his 11th in 23 starts this year. Edell allowed just two runs and six hits in six innings for his team-leading 13th quality start, and his eighth in his last nine outings. In those nine starts however, Edell is just 3-1 despite compiling a sparkling 2.13 ERA. He has also struck out 40 hitters and walked only six in his last 55 innings during his run.
Did You Know...Constanza has stolen eight straight bases, and has not been caught since May 27th at Harrisburg. The native of Santo Domingo, DR leads Akron and sits just outside the top-five in the league with 20 steals on the year.
