Brown Goes Eight, But B-Mets Fall

August 8, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Eric Brown worked a career-high-tying eight innings, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Binghamton Mets 4-2 at NYSEG Stadium Friday. Binghamton's loss evens the series at a game apiece.

New Hampshire (51-69) scored three times in the first. David Smith drove in the first run with a double before J.P. Arencibia groundout scored another. Brian Dopirak brought in the inning's final run with a base hit to center.

Dopirak added an RBI single in the fourth to make it 4-0 before Brown (5-9) settled down and retired 15 of the final 16 he faced.

The B-Mets (63-58) couldn't muster anything off New Hampshire starter Brandon Magee until the eighth. Jonathan Malo doubled and Fernando Martinez followed with a two-run homer, chasing Magee (6-11) from the ballgame. However, Mike MacDonald retired all five he faced to earn his first save.

Saturday, the Binghamton Mets play the third game of a four-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Lefty Mike Antonini (0-1, 4.76) will start for Binghamton against Robert Ray (6-4, 3.19) of New Hampshire. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Eric Brown worked eight innings for the third time in his career and the first time since 2006, when he was pitching for SS-A Brooklyn (9/6/06 vs. Vermont, 7/31/06 @ Aberdeen)...Magee, who tossed a complete-game shutout in his previous start, had his scoreless-innings streak snapped at 16 1/3 innings...there was a 19-minute rain delay in the top of the second.
