Vasquez Dominates, Kings Still Lose

April 19, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release

Beloit, WI - The only mistake made by Clinton LumberKings' left-hander Anthony Vasquez over a career-high eight innings turned out to be the difference-maker Monday afternoon at Pohlman Field. A solo home run by Angel Morales turned out to be the only run as Beloit completed the sweep with a 1-0 win.

Vasquez (L, 0-2) earned the first complete-game of his career, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. However, the LumberKings' offense failed to score for the second-straight day against the sharp Snappers staff.

Lefty Dan Osterbrock (W, 1-1) scattered three hits over 6.1 innings. Peter Kennelly (H, 2) and closer Steve Blevins (S, 4) continued the shutout over the final 2.2 innings.

Gabriel Noriega reached twice for the Kings, singling off Osterbrock in the third inning and drawing a walk off Blevins to lead off the ninth. However, Noriega was caught stealing to end the third and was stranded in the ninth as Kalian Sams struck out looking to end the game.

The Snappers (7-5) outscored the LumberKings 8-3 in the series. No player from either side had more than one hit in the contest, which lasted only an hour and 58 minutes.

The LumberKings (5-7) head home to open a three-game series against Burlington tomorrow night, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Right-hander Tyler Blandford (0-1, 9.95) makes his third start of the season against the Bees. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or online at www.lumberkings.com.
