Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DANVENPORT, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattler offense erupted for nine runs on 14 hits to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-5 Monday at Modern Woodmen park. D'Vontrey Richardson, Joey Paciorek, and Pete Fatse each had three hits for the victors. Chris Dennis hit his fourth homer of the season to provide some insurance that Wisconsin would need. Richardson, Dennis, Khris Davis, and Sean Halton each drove in a pair of runs for the Rattlers.
Halton gave the Rattlers (5-7) a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. Later in the frame, Richardson put the Rattlers up 2-0 with another RBI single.
Wisconsin padded their lead with three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Halton drove in his second run of the game with a single. Later in the inning, an error on a groundball off the bat of Michael Marseco scored another run. Next, Richardson collected his third hit of the game, an RBI triple that sent Marseco home and the Rattlers were up 5-0.
The River Bandits (9-3) loaded the bases against Wisconsin starter Nick Bucci with no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Frederick Parejo sent a popup down the third base line in fair territory. The infield fly rule was called for an automatic out. Bucci had the ball pop out of his mitt and the runners on second and third ran to the next base. Niko Vasquez, the runner at third, did not budge. He wound up just walking off the field and - after much discussion between the umpires and both managers - there was a ruling of two outs on the play. Bucci ended the inning with a strikeout.
Quad Cities again loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. Bucci gave up a sacrifice fly to Ryan Jackson and was replaced by reliever Andre Lamontagne. The right-hander promptly walked the first batter he faced to reload the bases. But, he got the next batter to ground into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play to keep the Rattlers in front 5-1.
The bats padded the lead in the top of the sixth. Khris Davis cracked a two-out, two-run double to left-center. Dennis was next and he crushed a two-run homer to right-center. Dennis has homered in two straight games.
Wisconsin would need those runs.
Del Howell came on to pitch the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with two outs on a pair of walks and a single. Howell got the second out. But, Devin Shepherd laced an opposite field homer to right-center for a grand slam and the River Bandits cut into the lead to make the score 9-5.
Howell would work a scoreless eighth inning. Hiram Burgos retired the River Bandits quietly - and in order - in the ninth to finish off the victory.
The Rattlers return home Tuesday night to start a six-game homestand. The first game features Damon Krestalude (1-0, 2.00) as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Cedar Rapids will counter with lefty Patrick Corbin (2-0, 2.08).
